In every accident or disaster, saving a life is the most important thing to do, rather than keeping your valuables intact. For travelers or those who are taking out-of-town trips, safety precautions are necessary to avoid hassles or accidents, especially those who will be staying in a hotel.

In the case of a hotel fire, presence of mind is very essential. You have to remember that fire spreads in minutes so never think of carrying your valuables with you. Pausing to make a phone call is also not recommended.

In minutes, if you can’t get out of your room at once, a hotel fire can be a life-threatening experience. Safety factors to consider are preparedness, following early warning messages and prompt response to the situation.

It is wise to stay in a hotel with an effective sprinkler system and fire alarm with a 24-hour immediate response team for emergencies. But if you are taking a low-budget hotel, you can ask the hotel personnel if there are trained staffs in case of emergencies.

However, during worse scenarios of hotel fire, be alert of the instructions provided by the emergency notifications (fire alarm). Never shout for help and panic. Go to the nearest emergency exit of your room and if a fire extinguisher is found use it to clear the areas where the fire is present.

Evacuate quickly and calmly as possible. Avoid taking the elevators when escaping from the burning building. Crawling can be an option to get out of the area and to be able to breathe well, avoiding suffocation. Never reenter the premises until the authorities say it is safe to do so.
