As an earthquake strikes, stay as calm as much as possible. Avoid running to and fro and shouting that there is an earthquake. Depending on the gravity of the occurrence, if you are staying indoors, stay where you are. Find a safe place or room with a strong desk, table or interior wall. This can be your hiding place for the meantime to safeguard yourself from falling debris or objects. Never stay in a temporary location near windows, big mirrors, hanging objects, heavy cabinets or appliances and fireplaces. You might be trapped and get injured by these objects.

If you are cooking, take a break for a while and turn off the stove and seek for a safe place to hide. When staying outdoors, go to an open area away from big trees, buildings, electrical wirings or street poles that might strike you.

When driving, reduce your car speed and stop on the side of the road. Never stay under bridges or overpasses or near electrical wirings. Stay calm. Report to the police and proper authorities if you need help especially when reconstructing your damaged house or when an injury needs immediate response.
