Disasters can force you to evacuate your neighborhood, workplace or school or can confine you to your home. Having the right survival kits, first-aid kits and emergency supplies on hand — ahead of time — is like having a spare tire in the trunk of your car: You hope not to have a flat tire, but it’s nice to know that a spare tire is there, ready for use, and to keep you going.
